LeBron: Police pulling over my son is 'a scary thought right now'
James has concerns about how the issues with minorities and police could affect his teenage son
From endorsing Hillary Clinton to commenting on Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protest, LeBron James -- one of the main faces of the NBA -- has never been a stranger to addressing issues that are affecting the nation. James even teamed up with Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade at the ESPYs this summer to make a statement about the recent spate of issues across the country involving people of color and police.
Police violence is an issue near and dear to James' heart. Especially since he has two young sons of color and he has the same thoughts and concerns that minority parents have when it comes to their children's interactions with police. James wondered aloud about this hypothetical situation during Cavs media day on September 26:
From CNN:
"I look at my son being four years removed from driving his own car and being able to leave the house on his own," James said Monday, a day before the defending NBA champions begin training camp. "It's a scary thought right now to think if my son gets pulled over, and you tell your kids if you just (comply), and you just listen to the police that they will be respectful and things will work itself out."And you see these videos that continue to come out. It's a scary-ass situation that if my son calls me and said he's been pulled over, that I'm not that confident that things are going to go well and that my son is going to return home."
This is a measured sentiment but while some stars may shy away from controversial topics, James continues to speak smartly on what he believes in.
