A franchise like the Heat knows how to wine-and-dine their free agents. They've made huge summer moves in the past such as signing LeBron James and trading for Shaquille O'Neal, so they know how to impress talent. This summer they're doing whatever they can to appeal to Gordon Hayward.

That all starts with the aesthetic. The Heat decorated American Airlines Arena prior to Hayward's meeting Saturday, and they made sure to give him a preview of what life in Miami could be like.

These type of gestures seem pointless, and in the grand scheme of things they might be. How the arena is decked out shouldn't matter in comparison to role, lifestyle, roster, and the coaching staff. However, there's a need to make a player feel like he's wanted. Decking out the arena in posters of the player accomplishes that goal.

Hayward isn't going to pick the Heat just because they put a picture of him by the arena, but perhaps it will at least keep him interested or maybe even impress him. That's what Miami wants. Just intrigue him early on and take care of everything else later.
