The Lakers are terrible, Kobe Bryant is a mess, and there is very little hope for the franchise. But hey, Nick Young's still goofy!

Young told reporters Sunday that he's the best 3-point shooter in the league. From the LA Daily News:

Young has whispered in recent days about participating the NBA’s 3-point shooting contest. After shooting 4 of 9 from the perimeter against the Kings, Young basically roared by boasting “I’m the best 3-point shooter in the league.”

Actually, Young ranks 14th in the NBA after shooting 43 percent from three-point range. Memphis’ Courtney Lee (54.5 percent), Atlanta’s Kyle Korver (53.9 percent) and Washington’s Rasual Butler (52.7 percent).

Yet, Young believes he will be one of the six players to compete in the NBA’s 3-point shooting contest on Feb. 13 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

“That’s people that shoot one 3 and are 100 percent,” Young joked of the players ranked above him. “I’m probably the greatest.”

Well, that seems reasonable. Smith has taken five threes per game during his career. In that time from, what other players that have taken five threes per game have done better, if any?

Oh. So that's not great.

Well, he's shooting a stellar 43 percent this season (for a team in which teams don't really have to defend anyone to beat). Who's doing better than that?

So... nope.

But of course, Young's just bragging, and he's not relying on numbers. He's saying "greatest." Greatest can mean whatever you want it to be. It can be "style on release" or "confidence in shot." So sure, he's "the greatest," in whatever universe he lives in. Just not in, you know, reality.

By the way, the Lakers' offense gets three points worse per 100 possessions with Young on the floor, it's on the defensive end that they're actually ten points better with him playing. So maybe he should change it up and say he should win DPOY, and say he's the greatest defender in the league. That would have just as much of a chance at being accurate.
