Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson will face his DUI charges in California and Colorado after he completes a 30-day alcohol rehab program, a Denver judge ruled on Friday, via ESPN:

The troubled point guard attended a pretrial hearing Friday in Denver, in which his lawyer said Lawson enters treatment Saturday at Cliffside Malibu, a celebrity rehabilitation center in California that treats patients with addiction and psychiatric issues.

"We will be handling the personal needs of the defendant," said Lawson's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, who added the program will "ensure his sobriety."

After his January arrest, Lawson was ordered not to drink alcohol or violate laws as part of his bond. A Denver judge on Friday ordered Lawson to use a stationary blood-alcohol monitoring device after his release from treatment.

Lawson's next court appearance in Denver was set for Aug. 20.

Lawson, 27, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Los Angeles earlier this week. It was the second time it had happened this year -- he was in court Friday because of a January incident in Denver.

"We have been notified of an incident involving Ty Lawson this morning in Los Angeles," Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said in a statement this week. "We will not further comment on the matter."

Denver head coach Michael Malone addressed the Lawson situation in an interview with Grantland's Zach Lowe:

Have you talked to Ty Lawson since his recent arrest on suspicion of DUI?

Yeah. I’ve reached out, but there hasn’t been a lot of contact. He has a lot going on right now. We’re gonna see how this whole process shakes out.

Do you expect him to play at the start of the season?

Of course. If that changes, you go from there. But as of now, Ty Lawson is part of the Denver Nugget family.

Several teams would reportedly be interested in Lawson if he is put on the trading block, including the Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers. He has spent his entire career with the Nuggets since they acquired him on draft night in 2009.
