Report: Bucks to meet again with free agent guard Derrick Rose
The Bucks met with Rose earlier in the free agency process, and want another meeting in L.A.
The Milwaukee Bucks had plenty of drama surrounding their GM search earlier this offseason, and they announced that their NBA G-League team will be called the Wisconsin Herd, but on the player front, their summer has been quiet.
Greg Monroe exercised his player option to stick with the team for next season, but nothing else of note has occurred. According to a report from ESPN's Chris Haynes, however, the team is set to meet with free agent point guard Derrick Rose for the second time this summer. Via ESPN:
Representatives for free-agent point guard Derrick Rose and officials from the Milwaukee Bucks are in discussions to schedule a meeting as early as this weekend, league sources told ESPN.
Once a date is finalized, the meeting is expected to occur in Los Angeles, sources said.
Interestingly, Haynes noted that the Bucks are attempting to clear salary to offer Rose more than the mid-level exception, which would appear to indicate that there is some serious interest on both sides.
The main obstacle on an agreement to relocate to Milwaukee has been compensation.
Milwaukee is approximately $1.6 million over the tax. The taxpayer midlevel exception of $5.2 million is all the franchise can offer at the moment. In order to make a more lucrative proposition, the Bucks have to shed salary via a trade.
Malcolm Brogdon emerged from the second round to take over the starting point guard role and win Rookie of the Year honors last season, and the Bucks just signed Matthew Dellavedova to a four-year deal worth nearly $40 million last summer, so it would seem they are set at the point.
According to this report, however, the Bucks front office does not feel that is the case.
