Spurs' Tim Duncan records 3,000th block, reaches rebound milestone
San Antonio big man Tim Duncan recorded his 3,000th career block on Saturday.
San Antonio Spurs big man Tim Duncan rejected Houston Rockets guard James Harden's shot in the first quarter on Sunday. Nothing about it was flashy: Harden tried to bully his way to the rim, but Duncan smartly avoided making contact and swatted his attempt away without even jumping. It was an understated but brilliant play against one of the league's best scorers, and it was the 3,000th block of Duncan's career.
“I haven’t gotten off the floor since my 2,000th block,” Duncan said, via the San Antonio Express-News' Jeff McDonald.
Duncan is one of five players with 3,000 blocks. Ahead of him are Hakeem Olajuwon (3,830), Dikembe Mutombo (3,289), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (3,189) and Mark Eaton (3,064).
That wasn't Duncan's only milestone against the Rockets. He also grabbed his 14,969th career rebound, passing Karl Malone for sixth all-time.
Of course, these accomplishments were overshadowed by Stephen Curry making history and the Golden State Warriors improving to 53-5 with a come-from-behind win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Somehow, I don't think that Duncan and the Spurs mind.
