Steve Smith's retirement plan didn't go exactly as expected last year.

Before the 2015 season started, the Ravens wide receiver had announced that it would be the final season of his 15-year career. However, after tearing his Achilles in November, Smith started to have second thoughts about retirement: The 37-year-old didn't want his career to end with a devastating injury.

In December, Smith officially announced that he would be returning in 2016, and during the Ravens minicamp last week, Smith revealed one of the big reasons he's decided to come back for another season.

"One thousand receptions," Smith said last week, via ESPN.com. "That's why, to be honest. Why not? You have to have something to strive for."

Smith currently has 961 career receptions, which means he just needs 39 more to hit his goal. If Smith reaches the milestone, he'll become just the 14th receiver in NFL history to hit the 1,ooo receptions mark.

Even if Smith can't stay healthy in 2016, there's a good chance he'll get the 39 catches he needs anyway. After all, Smith tallied 46 receptions in 2015, even though he only played in seven games.

Of course, if you make plans to come back just so you can reach a milestone, you have to have big plans for that milestone, right?

Smith has what might be the best plan ever.

"I may catch that [1,000th pass] in my uniform, get in my car and go home," Smith said. "Straight from there, drive all the way from M&T Bank [Stadium] straight to Charlotte, one shot."

I think he's joking, but this is Smith, so don't be surprised if he actually leaves the stadium and retires after making his 1,000th catch.
