Fight night in Boston: Bruins, Predators fight twice in two minutes
The Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators dropped the gloves twice within two minutes of each other on Monday night.
Fighting is definitely on the decline in the NHL, but don't tell that to the Bruins and Predators on Monday night.
During the second period of their game in Boston the two teams dropped the gloves twice in two minutes, including what might be one of the most random and unexpected fights in the league this season when Brad Marchand and Roman Josi turned a puck battle along the boards into a punch-fest.
According to the Hockeyfights.com data base Marchand was only involved in six fights in the NHL before Monday, while that was the first fight in Josi's career. Not only does he never fight, Josi almost never spends any time in the penalty box, recording just 82 penalty minutes in 279 career games. He's topped 20 penalty minutes in a single season just one time (a career high of 26 in 2014-15).
Along with the fight, Josi also scored two goals in the first 32 minutes of the game.
Just a couple of minutes after the Josi-Marchand scrap, Nashville's Eric Nystrom dropped the gloves with Boston's Tyler Randell and it did not end well for Nystrom.
Randell would add another penalty later in the second period when he checked Colin Wilson from behind into the boards.
Needless to say, it's been a pretty physical game.
