LOOK: Minnesota Wild unveil 2016 Stadium Series jerseys
The Minnesota Wild unveiled their 2016 Stadium Series jerseys Tuesday and... they're kind of underwhelming.
Just hours after the Chicago Blackhawks unveiled what they will be wearing for the Stadium Series game on Feb. 21, the home team showed off their new threads as well. The Minnesota Wild unveiled the jerseys they’ll wear for the highly-anticipated outdoor game at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Here’s a look via the Wild:

They’re nice, but this is kind of throwing the elements of their current jerseys and just jumbling them up a bit. It's a bit of a safe, if underwhelming, choice.
They do have super huge numbers as has become the Stadium Series custom:

Again, these jerseys actually look really sharp, but we’re used to seeing teams experiment a little more with these specialty games and it doesn’t look like the Wild wanted to get too aggressive on that front.
Maybe local fans will appreciate the subtlety of them, but if they already have a Wild jersey hanging in their closet, I’m not sure this is edition is going to motivate them to update. Isn't that why alternate and specialty jerseys exist at all anyway (unless we're talking about the old Sabres alternates of course)?
There will be four teams playing in Stadium Series games this winter, plus the two teams playing in the Winter Classic. The Wild are the last team to unveil what they’ll be wearing and that may be contributing to the underwhelming nature of the jersey.
The Colorado Avalanche went with a hybrid throwback jersey for their Stadium Series game that incoporated the old Colorado Rockies, which is why many people believed the Wild could have a little bit of a North Stars flavor to their outdoor threads. That obviously wasn't the case.
The tradition-rich Detroit Red Wings also offered a vast departure from their current uniforms for their Stadium Series duds. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks tweaked their current look in a number of ways for their date with the Wild.
Minnesota has been clamoring for an outdoor game since they came into existence in the NHL. They obviously deserved one with hockey being such a part of the fabric of the culture in the state. I thought we might see some sort of nod to that (aside from the State of Hockey patch affixed to the jerseys), but even without one these willl probably look very nice on TV.
