Andre Deveaux, the former NHL player who brutally attacked an opponent during warmups, has already lost his job with Swedish club Rogle. Now it appears he could face legal ramifications from the on-ice incident.

According to the TT news agency (via Reuters), Swedish prosecutors have issued a warrant for Deveau’s arrest stemming from Thursday’s on-ice incident that gained international attention over the weekend. Here’s a look at the incident again:

More from Reuters:

Swedish prosecutors have issued a warrant for the arrest of Canadian former NHL player Andre Deveaux after he attacked an opponent on-ice before a promotion playoff.
The prosecutors acted after reviewing video footage of Deveaux, who has played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers, rushing at Per Helmersson from behind during the warmup and hitting him in the back of the leg with his stick before clubbing him to the ice.

It was one of the most shocking things you’ll ever see on a hockey rink. Despite the sport’s inherent violence, what happened Thursday was criminal. Helmersson had no opportunity to defend himself against the attack from behind by Deveaux. Luckily, Helmersson was not injured in the attack and was able to continue playing, but that doesn’t diminish the disgusting actions from Deveaux a bit.

Rogle won its promotion playoff series against Vasteras, the club for which Helmersson played, with a 2-0 victory Sunday. Deveaux’s contract was terminated by Rogle Monday, two full games after the incident, including the game that was played after the warmup in which the attack occurred.
