Anaheim Ducks defenseman Clayton Stoner wanted to make sure that Ryan Reaves knew that he wasn’t going to be able to hit Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf and get away with it. After Reaves delivered a clean (if a tad late) check on Getzlaf, Stoner was there within a second to challenge Reaves.

Though the Ducks appreciated Stoner’s standing up for Getzlaf, he didn’t last long in the fight. Reaves through a couple of quick punches on Stoner and when the Anaheim blueliner hit the ice, Reaves stopped the fight by sitting on Stoner.

Yeah, he just straddled him like a horse or something and waited for the linesmen to step in. I’m not really sure where sitting on an opponent ranks in the ethics of fighting, but Reaves could have easily thrown some more punches on Stoner while he was in a prone position. The Blues enforcer didn’t, though. I think both Stoner and the NHL would much prefer a guy sitting on his opponent than wailing on him while he’s defenseless. Thankfully, Reaves eased off.

Also, the video features a cameo of one of last night’s great bloopers as at the beginning of the video, you can see Blues defenseman Barret Jackman fall for apparently no reason at all.

So there you have it, a two-for-one “Weird moments in the NHL” video.
