Bayern Munich comfortably advanced to the Champions League Quarterfinals on Tuesday, crushing Arsenal again 5-1 in the round of 16 second leg to advance 10-2 on aggregate.

The Gunners, who trailed 5-1 entering the second leg, have now exited the competition at this stage for the seven consecutive season, as the pressure mounts on Arsene Wenger.

And though Arsenal entered with close to no chance of coming back, they at least made it a little interesting early.

The first half saw the hosts regain confidence. The team pushed up in numbers with the risk of conceding, knowing it needed goals to get back into it, and created a flurry of solid chances.

It was Theo Walcott’s strike on 20 minutes that gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead, making it 5-2 to Bayern on aggregate.

In the second half, it didn’t take long for Bayern to kill off Arsenal’s chances of a comeback. Laurent Koscielny was shown a red card for a challenge on Robert Lewandowski and the forward finished the resulting penalty kick with class to make it 1-1 and 6-2 on aggregate for the visitors.

Arjen Robben then caught the home defense sleeping to make it 2-1 and shut the door on any comeback.

A goal from Douglas Costa 12 minutes from time and two more from  Arturo Vidal saw the Germans cement the embarrassing aggregate scoreline for the hosts.

The two wins were statements from the Germans, who have looked as strong as any team in the competition. For the Gunners, European disappointment continues.
