It’s not often we see Lionel Messi score with his head. After all, he so darn good with his feet and he is short compared to his colleagues, so he doesn’t get a lot of opportunities. He had that one header against Manchester United in the 2009 Champions League final, and he had another one on Wednesday for Barcelona against Sporting Gijon.

Early on, Messi opened the scoring with his lofted header off a ball from Javier Mascherano. Take a look.

That defending is as bad as it gets, but with the goalkeeper charging, it wasn’t the easiest of headers. Messi read it correctly and put just enough on it to get it over the goalkeeper and in.

He was so alone that he even had to look to make sure he wasn’t called offside, unable to believe how he was left alone by Gijon’s back line.

Messi scoring with his head is like a four-leaf clover -- rare and really cool to see.
