Lionel Messi to River Plate almost happened when the Argentina superstar was a youth product in Argentina. But it didn't, and he went on to Barcelona and eventually entered into the discussion for the best player of all time. What might have been for River Plate fans, they will never know. But here is a small consolation. Here is Messi in a photo with a River Plate jersey.

This took place after Barcelona beat River Plate 3-0 in the Club World Cup final last weekend. It's common for players to trade jerseys with the other team. Some sometimes actually put the jersey on. Messi probably didn't because River fans tried to spit on him and insulted him.
