President Trump consulted on U.S. World Cup bid and is happy Mexico is part of it
President Trump is all for the World Cup coming to North America, it seems
U.S. Soccer, Mexico and Canada announced their bid to host the 2026 World Cup on Monday, and President Donald Trump is all for it, according to U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati.
During the press conference in New York City, Gulati said Trump is fully supportive of the bid and encouraged that Mexico is in it.
.@POTUS is fully supportive of our unified bid for the 2026 #FIFA World Cup and especially pleased that Mexico is a part of it.

Gulati had expressed his concern with Trump’s travel ban and how it could impact a bid, but it hasn’t been enough to prevent it from happening.
“We’re not going to get too much into politics today in discussing American foreign policy or anyone else’s foreign policy,” Gulati said. “What I can tell you is we have very specifically addressed this with the president, he is fully supportive of the joint bid, encouraged the joint bid and especially pleased with the fact that Mexico is participating in this joint bid with us. I think those are all positives.”
Well, there you go. Even though Trump won’t be president in 2026, he was always expected to be for it and will have a role in the U.S. possibly securing the bid.
Trump hasn’t spoken about the bid publicly just yet, but it sounds like he is on board and ready to do his part to make it happen.
