2025 WWE Crown Jewel results, review, grades: Seth Rollins beats Cody Rhodes; John Cena outlasts AJ Styles
Rollins needed the help of some dirty tactics to win the Crown Jewel championship on Saturday in Australia
Seth Rollins finally got his victory over Cody Rhodes at WWE Crown Jewel on Saturday, though he had to take a shortcut to get the job done. Rollins' win scored him the men's Crown Jewel championship in the night's main event.
That main event was filled with huge moves as both Rollins and Rhodes desperately tried to score the victory, but the end came when Rollins used the Rolex Rhodes had given him to land a cheap shot. Rollins was able to get the win without help from The Vision, but he did not truly prove to be the better man.
Other highlights from the night included Stephanie Vaquer beating Tiffany Stratton for the women's Crown Jewel championship, John Cena outlasting AJ Styles in an epic renewal of their rivalry, and Roman Reigns falling short against Bronson Reed after Jey Uso accidentally speared Reigns.
WWE Crown Jewel was presented live on Saturday from the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. CBS Sports was with you through the event, providing updates and highlights as the action unfolds in the live blog below.
Reed takes down Reigns in a chaotic Australian Street Fight
Roman Reigns took the fight right to Bronson Reed, dominating the early action before the two wrestlers spilled out into the crowd. As the two battled out around the fans, Reigns used a trash can before throwing rugby balls at both Reed and Paul Heyman. Next, Reigns used a cricket bat to wear down Reed. Reed finally turned things around when he was able to blindside Reigns as the "OTC" was attempting to set up a table, following up by bashing Reigns with the ring steps. After Reed worked over Reigns with steel chairs, Reigns was able to nearly score the pinfall with a desperation Samoan drop that collapsed one of those chairs. Moments later, Reed nearly had the match won with a Jagged Edge.
Reed charged face-first into a chair he'd set up in the corner, allowing Reigns to hit a Superman punch for another near fall. As Reigns was getting set to hit Reed with a spear outside the ring, Bron Breakker appeared to hit his own on Reigns. Breakker then helped Reed powerbomb Reigns through the commentary desk. The Usos then ran in to come to Reigns' aid, getting the better of both Vision members until Breakker was able to spear Jey Uso through the ringside barricade. Reigns got back in the mix, which led to Jey accidentally spearing Reigns through a table. That set up Reed to hit a Tsunami for the victory. After the loss, Reigns was upset with The Usos, saying he told them not to get involved and then saying he loved them, but "I don't want to see y'all until Christmas." The match was a fairly plodding affair until the interference down the stretch. Once Breakker and The Usos entered the picture, things picked up. Grade: B-
Vaquer outlasts Stratton to win the Women's Crown Jewel Championship
The early moments of the match saw chain wrestling and reversals between the two women. Once things picked up, Vaquer slid out of the way of a Stratton tumble into the corner and went on the attack. Vaquer used boot scrapes to the face and stomped on Stratton's elbow, showing Stratton that she would have to get a little rough to keep up. Stratton came back with a back suplex and a cartwheel into an Alabama slam. Vaquer countered into a dragon screw in the corner, ripping at Stratton's knee.
A brief Stratton comeback was cut off when Vaquer countered a swanton by getting her knees up and hitting Devil's Kiss. Shortly after, Vaquer rolled out of the way of the Prettiest Moonsault Ever and hit a corkscrew splash to get the three count. This was a solid match, though a step or two below what Vaquer is capable of, or other recent women's PLE matches. The finish also felt like it came out of nowhere, and not in a positive way. Grade: B
Cena pays tribute to some of his greatest rivals in win over Styles
The match started with a bit of testing the waters with collar and elbow tie-ups, with both men giving clean breaks when they had individual advantages in the corner. Action picked up a bit, leading to Cena hitting a Five-Knuckle Shuffle and an Attitude Adjustment for a two count fairly early in the match. Cena also busted out a Skull-Crushing Finale in a hat tip to The Miz, another of Cena's former rivals. Styles fired back with a torture rack bomb for his own nearfall.
Cena rolled through a Styles Clash attempt, countering the move into a STFU. Styles countered that hold into a crossface from which Cena eventually escaped. Cena continued paying tribute to old rivals by locking Styles in the Walls of Jericho. Shortly after, Styles hit the Styles Clash for a two-count. Next, Cena hit Styles with Sister Abigail. Momentum swung back and forth, with more tribute moves, such as Cena hitting Randy Orton's hanging DDT and a follow-up RKO. Styles hit his own version of an Attitude Adjustment for a two-count, Cena came back with an Undertaker-style chokeslam. A Styles springboard 450 couldn't finish off Cena, nor could Sweet Chin Music, nor could a Phenomenal Forearm. Styles kicked out of another Attitude Adjustment as the big moves kept coming.
The finish finally came when Cena caught Styles coming off the top rope with a crossbody. Cena rolled through before hoisting Styles up for a Tombstone Piledriver, and hit another Attitude Adjustment to score the pinfall. This wasn't as good as their past matches and didn't really operate like a normal wrestling match, with all the tributes and hat tips, but it was fun and if you're grading on whether a match hit the mark or not, it's hard to deny that this one did. Sky and Ripley get a hard-fought win over Kabuki Warriors
Iyo Sky did not hesitate to bring the fight to her old friends. Sky's assault was slowed when Asuka blindsided her and ran her head into the ringpost. Kairi Sane hit Sky with a flying forearm as she and Asuka looked to isolate Sky and keep Rhea Ripley from entering the match. Keeping Sky trapped in their corner, Asuka and Sane worked her over with kicks. Sane baited Ripley into trying to enter the ring, causing a distraction that allowed Sane and Asuka to illegally double-team Sky. Sane and Asuka both hit backfists on Sky before Sane stomped Sky while she was hanging in the corner.
Sky fired up during a strike exchange with Asuka and was finally able to crawl and make the hot tag to Ripley, who immediately entered the ring and blasted Sane with a string of big strikes. Asuka slowed Ripley down with a shining wizard, but Ripley bounced right back when Asuka tried to tag Sane back into the match. Ripley hit a razor's edge on Sane, and Sky followed up with a top rope drop kick for a two-count. The action spilled out of the ring, culminating in Sky hitting a springboard moonsault onto both members of the Kabuki Warriors. Sky connected with an Over The Moonsault on Sane, and she and Ripley looked to hit a double-team move before Asuka smashed Sky into the ringpost. This nearly led to a Kabuki Warriors win after an InSane Elbow on Ripley.
Ripley was eventually able to hit Riptide and tagged Sky in to hit the Over the Moonsault for the win. This was just a solid tag team match, well structured and with everyone playing their part after a match between Styles and Cena that was going to be nearly impossible to follow. Grade: B+
Rollins takes shortcut to score Crown Jewel Championship win over Rhodes
In the opening moments of the match, Rhodes hit a delayed suplex, and Rollins was immediately frustrated, rolling out of the ring and trying to settle himself down. Rhodes implored Rollins to "just do this," leading to an exchange of forearms before Rhodes dumped Rollins over the top rope with a clothesline and knocked him back to the floor with a Disaster Kick. Rollins began to throw chairs and equipment around the timekeeper's area out of frustration. Rollins then yelled at Wade Barrett and Michael Cole before shoving Cole. Rhodes took Rollins down at that point, but Rollins was able to shove Rhodes into the ring steps. Rollins kept control for a bit, including countering a Disaster Kick attempt into a powerbomb for a near fall.
As Rollins' momentum continued, he began to taunt Rhodes, hitting a Stardust-style cartwheel, and attempting to hit a Dusty Rhodes Bionic Elbow. Rhodes battled back with a Vertibreaker and a Disaster Kick. A Cody Cutter nearly won the match for Rhodes, but Rollins was able to kick out. Rollins was able to counter another Disaster Kick into a Pedigree and also countered a Cross Rhodes into one of his own, but both moves only resulted in two-counts.
Rollins connected with another Pedigree and followed up with a stomp, only for Rhodes to kick out again. Frustrated, Rollins left the ring and grabbed the watch Rhodes gave him after Rollins helped him win the WWE championship. Rollins put the watch on his fist, but then put it down. The distraction of the situation allowed Rhodes to hit another Cody Cutter and a Cross Rhodes for yet another near fall. Rollins hung Rhodes up in the corner before hitting a coast-to-coast move that connected as something of a diving headbutt. Rollins hit a top rope Spanish fly and a urinage suplex, but still couldn't put Rhodes away.
The absurdity continued with Rhodes hitting a Cross Rhodes from the top rope, and Rollins still managing to kick out. Rollins again grabbed the watch, put it on his fist, and this time hit Rhodes with it after the referee was briefly knocked down. That allowed Rollins to follow up with a stomp, and then another, this time from the second rope, scoring the win. This was a solid match that had the necessary cheap finish. Rollins was eventually pushed to the point of needing to take a shortcut to win, not proving to truly be the better man and leaving doubts about where he truly stands. Grade: A-
