WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Asuka mists Rhea Ripley, turns on Iyo Sky; Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins set stage

While the build is on to the Oct. 11 Crown Jewel event, the standout moment from Monday's episode of WWE Raw came between Asuka, Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky.

After weeks of teasing that Asuka had grown frustrated with Sky's lack of aggression toward the rest of the locker room, Asuka turned on her longtime friend. After Sky attempted to get Asuka to halt an assault on Ripley -- an assault that included a misting -- Asuka blasted Sky with a backfist and encouraged Kabuki Warriors teammate Kairi Sane to join in on the attack.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

Asuka mists Rhea Ripley, turns on Iyo Sky

Asuka confronted Stephanie Vaquer backstage, saying Vaquer didn't deserve the title and that Iyo Sky should be women's world champion. Asuka was cut off by Rhea Ripley, who said she was tired of Asuka's behavior before challenging her to a match in the night's main event.

Rhea Ripley def. Asuka via pinfall with a schoolboy pin. Kairi Sane reluctantly attempted to interfere and help Asuka, leading to an accidental collision that allowed Ripley to get the roll-up for the victory. Asuka attacked after the match, misting Ripley and encouraging Sane to join in on the attack. Sky ran to the ring and asked Asuka to stop, which Asuka agreed to before hitting Sky with a backfist. Asuka and Sane continued the attack on Sky and Ripley until the show went off the air.

It's good that WWE pulled the trigger and finished Asuka turning on Sky. As one of the best wrestlers on the planet, Sky needs a clear direction now that she is out of the world title picture for the foreseeable future. Sky and Ripley teaming to take on The Kabuki Warriors seems like a simple enough play for a few months of programming. Grade: B

What else happened on WWE Raw?

  • Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins came face-to-face. The pair are set to meet in a champion vs. champion match at Crown Jewel. Rollins said that he knows what everyone else thinks of him, but he wanted to know what Rhodes thinks of him. Rhodes said that Rollins has made questionable decisions, but that Rollins also changed his life in their past matches but Rollins is hiding behind the rest of the vision. Rhodes ended things by saying that all their other matches have been one-on-one and asking Rollins if this one would be as well -- and for Rollins to remember how many of their previous meetings he had won.
  • The War Raiders & Penta def. The New Day & Grayson Waller via pinfall in a six-man no-disqualification match. The finish came when Penta hit Waller with an avalanche Mexican destroyer.
  • Stephanie Vaquer spoke two days after winning the vacant women's world championship at Wrestlepalooza. Vaquer spoke of the sacrifices she made to reach her dream and said she would be at SmackDown for Tiffany Stratton's WWE women's championship match on Friday to see who she will face for the Crown Jewel championship.
  • Bayley def. Roxanne Perez via pinfall after a Rose Plant. Bayley had asked Lyra Valkyria to be with her at ringside, leaving Valkyria confused after Bayley had yelled at her last week. When Raquel Rodriguez and Perez attacked Valkyria during the match, Bayley snapped and took Perez out. Valkyria attempted to congratulate Bayley after the match but Bayley shoved her to the ground and asked why Valkyria thought it was ok to touch her.
  • Rusev def. JD McDonagh via submission with the Accolade. Dominik Mysterio went to his Judgment Day teammates to ask for help dealing with Rusev, who is after Mysterio's intercontinental championship. After Finn Balor turned him down, McDonagh was convinced to help, only to find out that meant a match with Rusev. Balor ran in to save McDonagh after the match after Mysterio failed to help McDonagh as Rusev continued his attack post match, leading to an argument between Balor and Mysterio.
  • Jey Uso def. LA Knight via pinfall after an Uso Splash. Jimmy Uso confronted Jey earlier in the night, asking why Jey was worried about a match with Knight instead of a rematch with The Vision. Jey blamed Knight for their loss to The Vision at Wrestlepalooza and brushed off Jimmy's concerns. Later, Jimmy asked Cody Rhodes to talk to Jey, but Jey also brushed off Rhodes, saying he's fine. When The Vision attacked during the match, Knight fought them off, which Jey took advantage of to score the win. Jey then left Knight alone as The Vision was about to attack but Jimmy ran in and held them back with a chair.
