WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Austin Theory fails Money in the Bank cash-in on U.S. champ Seth Rollins
Theory became the first Money in the Bank holder to cash in on a secondary title

Austin Theory's run as Mr. Money in the Bank appears to be over. During Monday night's WWE Raw, Theory made the unusual decision to cash in his contract for a guaranteed title match on a compromised Seth Rollins in an attempt to win the United States championship. Theory's plan was foiled by Bobby Lashley, however, and Theory suffered a loss.
In the other big news coming out of the show, the build to the Nov. 26 Survivor Series is officially on. The event will feature two War Games matches and Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss and Asuka laid down a challenge to Damage CTRL to take place inside the double cage at the event. Damage CTRL got the last laugh on the night, however, with Nikki Cross joining their squad and helping to lay out their foes.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
Austin Theory fails to cash in on Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins had promised to hold an open challenge for his United States championship. Finn Balor and The Judgement Day quickly came to the ring for a confrontation with Balor telling Rollins he had cost him gold weeks ago. Before the two could get down to business, The O.C interrupted to confront The Judgement Day, saying that they had been looking for a solution to their "Rhea Ripley problem" after Ripley had cost them several matches. The solution, AJ Styles said, found them instead. At that point, a returning Mia Yim attacked Ripley from behind before hitting her with a kendo stick several times as the rest of the O.C. ran off their foes.
United States Championship -- Seth Rollins (c) def. Austin Theory via pinfall to retain the title. Rollins was back out to close the show with his second attempt at the open challenge. Bobby Lashley took out Mustafa Ali backstage before telling Rollins he would be accepting the challenge. Instead, Lashley brutally attacked Rollins before the match officially started. WWE officials eventually forced Lashley to the back, at which point Theory emerged with his Money in the Bank briefcase. Theory scored several near-falls before Rollins began a comeback, only to be cut short when Theory hit A-Town Down. Before he could score the pin, Lashley returned, pulling an irate Theory from the ring after the referee went down. After Lashley threw Theory around ringside, the referee recovered and began a 10-count, which Theory beat only to slide into a Rollins stomp for the champion to retain.
Theory cashing in his Money in the Bank contract for a secondary title is going to sit poorly for a lot of people, but his time with the case has been locked into a bad situation with Roman Reigns as the only world champion -- excluding NXT -- for him to challenge. Cashing in on the United States title and then losing, though? That's rough. With the circumstances around his loss, it wouldn't be unusual for WWE to go to the bag of tricks and give him the contract right back for another opportunity. But, from Lashley accepting a challenge and then preventing the match, to Theory cashing in (and losing) on a secondary belt, this was just strange all around. Grade: C
First War Games match set for Survivor Series
Bianca Belair, Asuka and Alexa Bliss came to the ring to call out Damage CTRL after a parking lot confrontation between the two groups earlier in the day. After Damage CTRL came out to respond, Belair said that she hadn't gotten to her point and that she was officially issuing a challenge to meet in a War Games match at Survivor Series. At that point, Nikki Cross rushed the ring to attack Belair from behind, seemingly ready to be the fourth woman on Damage CTRL's side at Survivor Series.
24/7 Championship – Nikki Cross def. Dana Brooke (c) via pinfall to win the title. Damage CTRL was ringside cheering on their War Games partner as she picked up the title. Cross later appeared to attempt to throw the 24/7 title into a garbage can, potentially ending that belt for good.
This is a sensible War Games match for the women's side and it will be fun to see who the final three women in the five vs. five match will be. It will also be entertaining to see Damage CTRL try to keep Cross under control. The other big moment was Cross trying to throw the 24/7 title in the trash. That belt has definitely run its course and it's time to let it go. Hopefully that is what that moment signified, even if she did accidentally miss the bin in the moment. Grade: B+
