WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Randy Orton battles AJ Styles while Riddle tries to reunite with his teammate

Orton ended the show with an RKO to Riddle, but the team appears to be back together

Randy Orton had been off WWE television since late June, halting the momentum of his RK-Bro team with Riddle. On Monday night's edition of Raw, Orton made his return -- and immediately was dealing with Riddle's enthusiasm once again.

Orton faced AJ Styles in the night's main event, moving one step closer to a SummerSlam Raw tag team title match between Orton and Riddle and champions Styles and Omos. While Orton got the win, it was the post-match that will grab the headlines with Orton and Riddle seemingly officially reuniting despite Orton hitting his teammate with a show-closing RKO.

Randy Orton returns to Raw with main event win

Randy Orton made his return to Raw with a show-opening, in-ring promo. It only took a moment before Riddle came to the ring, asking Orton if they were going to start up their RK-Bro tag team again. Orton shot Riddle down, saying he works better alone before AJ Styles and Omos came to the ring, with Styles challenging Orton to a main event match before a brawl involving all four. The story ran through the entire night, with Orton continuing to refuse to get the team back together and Riddle saying it would happen eventually.

Randy Orton def. AJ Styles via pinfall when he countered a Phenomenal Forearm into an RKO. Riddle was out at the end of the match after it seemed Omos was ready to interfere. The ringside chaos led to Styles trying to leap into the ring only to be caught by the RKO for the finish. After the match, Riddle begged Orton to get the team back together yet again. After initially resisting, Orton broke down and hugged Riddle before hitting him with an RKO.

Despite the RKO, it appears that Orton and Riddle are together again. That's a good thing, since Riddle and Orton have a chemistry together that's missing from so much of WWE programming. There's one week remaining to make a Raw tag title match against Styles and Omos official, but it seems a lock for SummerSlam. As for the match between Orton and Styles, it was as good as you'd expect and the RKO finish was fantastic. Grade: B+

What else happened on WWE Raw?

• Drew McIntyre def. Baron Corbin via pinfall after a Claymore. Corbin said he'd been sleeping in the production truck when Jinder Mahal offered him an opportunity to get back on his feet by facing Corbin. Mahal, Veer and Shanky came out after the match but left when McIntyre grabbed his sword.
• Karrion Kross def. Jeff Hardy via submission with a Kross Jacket. Kross continued to attack after the match, getting his revenge for Hardy beating him in Kross' Raw debut.
• Alexa Bliss def. Doudrop via pinfall with a roll-up. Doudrop was distracted for the finish when Lilly (Bliss' doll) winked at her.
• Sheamus def. Ricochet via pinfall with a Brogue Kick. This was a non-title open challenge from United States champ Sheamus. After the match, Damian Priest came to the ring to stare Sheamus down. Sheamus backed down before trying to attack -- and failing -- from behind.
• Damian Priest def. John Morrison via pinfall after hitting Reckoning. Miz was ringside and sprayed Priest with water, which turned out to be not enough to distract Priest from hitting his finish. As Priest was about to attack Miz, Miz leaped from his wheelchair before running away, apparently no longer injured.
• Sheamus accepted Damian Priest's SummerSlam challenge. Priest threw down the challenge after his match, with Sheamus quickly accepting.
• T-Bar def. Mustafa Ali via pinfall after hitting Feast Your Eyes. Mansoor saved Ali from any further damage after the match, running in to take out T-Bar and Mace.
• Bobby Lashley and MVP delivered a message to Goldberg ahead of SummerSlam. Both men implored Goldberg's son to convince the challenger to not show up to SummerSlam because Lashley intended to retire Goldberg for good.
• Nikki A.S.H. def. Rhea Ripley via disqualification after interference by Charlotte Flair. Flair ran in during the match and shoved Nikki off the top rope before attacking both women and posing with Nikki's Raw women's championship.
