WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Seth Rollins sets the rules for CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam

WWE put on the SummerSlam go-home show edition of Raw on Monday night and the stage is now set for the brand's matches at the biggest show of the summer. That includes the heavily-anticipated match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.

Seth Rollins, the special guest referee for Punk vs. McIntyre, delivered his official "referee's instructions" to the wrestlers, leaving things a bit more muddy than they were before the show started. Also on the show, world heavyweight champion Damian Priest laid a beating on Gunther less than one week before the two clash for the title at SummerSlam.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Seth Rollins sets the rules for CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam

Seth Rollins opened the show in his referee gear. Rollins was there to offer his official "referee's instructions" to CM Punk and Drew McIntyre ahead of officiating their match at SummerSlam. After Punk and McIntyre came to the ring, Rollins reiterated that if either man touched the other -- or Rollins -- the match would be canceled.

After everyone involved exchanged words, Rollins finally delivered his instructions. Effectively, everything in the match will be at his discretion. There will be count outs if he decides, but the could decide the count can take as long as he wants, and the same goes for disqualifications. Punk and McIntyre took a few more shots at each other before the segment came to a close.

Monday's entire show felt a bit stale and like the company is just treading water until SummerSlam. This segment was just stage-setting for the match, which is already the biggest on the card, and not much more. It feels like Punk and McIntyre have already thrown the best verbal shots they have and they weren't going to be allowed to touch. Rollins' instructions were funny in a way but also don't work great for a wrestling match where fans now don't know if there are disqualifications or the rest of the actual rules for the match. That doesn't really matter that much, but it's an odd approach to try and add a little extra seasoning. Grade: B-
