Less than one week before defending the WWE championship against Kofi Kingston at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Bobby Lashley faced Kingston's New Day teammate, Xavier Woods, in singles action on Raw. The result of that match would send Lashley reeling mentally before confronting his own partner to end the final show of WWE's ThunderDome era.

Lashley lost the match to Woods and tore apart MVP's VIP Lounge to end the show, declaring that MVP had made him soft and that it was "time to get back to business." Now, Lashley heads into a major title defense in six days with no momentum and a determined challenger looking to pounce.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from the ThunderDome inside Yuengling Center in Tampa.

Xavier Woods upset sends Bobby Lashley over the edge

Xavier Woods def. Bobby Lashley via pinfall with a small package. Lashley dominated the early action, attacking Woods while Kofi Kingston was forced to look on. Woods eventually made his big comeback, however, eventually hitting a big dive over the top rope onto Lashley. That momentum did not last long before Lashley took over, throwing Woods around the ring with brutal displays of power. However, Woods took advantage of Lashley's overconfidence to score a small package and steal the win. After the match, MVP confirmed that Lashley had left the building but it wasn't a big deal. He just left to blow off steam and would return to appear on the VIP Lounge later in the night.

Lashley did return for the show-closing VIP Lounge as MVP attempted to hype the champion up. Lashley said that Kingston's trash talk weeks ago was correct, MVP had caused him to become soft. Lashley said that he was fuming, and he appreciated what MVP had done for him, but celebrations were over and it was time to go back to business. Lashley then destroyed the VIP Lounge set before vowing to tear Kingston in half at Money in the Bank.

Lashley's spiral over the past few weeks has been good for his character development, giving the WWE champion something other than "is dominant" as a personality trait. Woods getting the upset was a good bit of misdirection for what is likely a title-retaining effort against Kingston on Sunday. Kingston probably could have benefited from doing a bit more on the show, but Woods carried the team for a week. Grade: B

What else happened on WWE Raw?

  • Eva Marie and Doudrop appeared on Alexa Bliss' Playground. Marie stormed off when Bliss kept trying to talk to Doudrop and eventually said Marie appearing was just a bonus, while Doudrop was the actual guest.
  • Drew McIntyre destroyed Jinder Mahal's motorcycle. Mahal had McIntyre's family sword he'd stolen last week and called McIntyre out to the ring. McIntyre, knowing better, was backstage, telling Mahal the sword he'd stolen -- and broke to pieces -- was a replica before breaking and knocking over the custom motorcycle.
  • Nikki Cross def. Naomi, Asuka and Alexa Bliss via pinfall after she rolled up Asuka. Doudrop and Eva Marie interfered in the middle of the match but did not factor into the finish.
  • Ivar def. AJ Styles via pinfall after countering a Styles charge into the corner. This was the first of two matches pitting the rival tag teams against each other in singles action.
  • Omos def. Erik via pinfall with a chokebomb. Omos evened things up for his team by picking up a win over the other Viking Raider.
  • United States Championship -- Sheamus (c) def. Humberto Carrillo via pinfall after a Brogue Kick. Sheamus attacked Carrillo backstage before the match, leaving Carrillo badly injured to where it took a single move to retain his title. Sheamus again attacked after the match until Damian Priest ran in to make the save.
  • Ricochet def. John Morrison via pinfall after hitting a splash through a ladder in a Falls Count Anywhere match. This was a wild match that also included some outside interference from The Miz before Riddle came to ringside to give Ricochet the assist.
  • Rhea Ripley def Natalya via pinfall after hitting Riptide. After the match, Charlotte Flair ran in to attack Ripley, locking in a figure-four leglock while hanging off the ring apron.
