WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: CM Punk joins Roman Reigns' team for Survivor Series: WarGames

Paul Heyman has managed numerous world champions over his WWE Hall of Fame career. On WWE SmackDown, two of those clients unexpectedly joined forces. Heyman returned after a five-month hiatus, bringing CM Punk along to complete Roman Reigns' WarGames team.

Reigns, The Usos and Sami Zayn were prepared to forge ahead without a fifth member at Survivor Series: WarGames. Reigns has made many enemies in his career and seemingly no one was interested in bailing him out. But you can always expect Heyman to have a plan. The Wiseman's brought Punk as an equalizer against Solo Sikoa's Bloodline.

SmackDown also featured advancements in the feud between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens, plus the ongoing tournament to crown the first women's United States championship.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

Paul Heyman guys unite for WarGames

The Bloodline 2.0 kicked off SmackDown with Bronson Reed in tow. Sikoa promised domination at WarGames and presented Reigns with the opportunity to surrender.

Backstage, Reigns and company convened. They scoffed at Sikoa's demands for surrender. The group pondered who their fifth member could be. Jey Uso suggested Cody Rhodes but Reigns declined, calling him old news. Zayn suggested approaching Seth Rollins again, but Reigns rejected that idea as well. "The OTC" argued they could beat the new Bloodline without a fifth man.

Reigns, The Usos and Zayn confronted The Bloodline in SmackDown's closing segment. Sikoa told Reigns he did not want to fight. Instead, Sikoa wanted the four of them to join him. Sikoa claimed The Bloodline could run WWE for decades if they joined forces. Sikoa said his opponents were a man down and short a Wiseman, a nod to Paul Heyman's absence. Sikoa argued that Reigns and his team had no choice but to surrender.

"Ladies and gentlemen!" a familiar voice boomed over the sound system.

The crowd cheered loudly as Heyman made his first appearance in five months. Heyman was driven through a table by The Bloodline in June after failing to acknowledge Sikoa as Tribal Chief. Heyman -- who did not answer Reigns' phone call last week -- proved his worth as special counsel by recruiting a fifth person for Reigns' WarGames team. Queue Punk, Heyman's close friend and former client. Punk hit the ring and a brawl broke out. The Reigns-Punk team won the brawl, after which the two men stared each other down.

You're not going to get much bigger than Punk. WarGames started looking wonky when Reed was introduced into the family dynamic, but Punk is a reasonable addition. Punk and Heyman have history, plus it sets up a long-awaited showdown between Punk and Reigns. Not only did Heyman get a huge pop but his ability to recruit Punk reinforces his credibility as a tactical asset. Grade: A
