WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: Cody Rhodes means business, new tag team champions crowned
Rhodes didn't have much to say on Friday as he prepares to come face-to-face with John Cena
For once, Cody Rhodes did not want to talk. The undisputed WWE champion showed a new mean streak on WWE SmackDown as he prepares to confront John Cena on Monday Night Raw.
The Miz may regret inviting Rhodes on to Miz TV. The champ prioritized actions over words when appearing on The Miz's talk show. Rhodes is hungry for revenge after being attacked by Cena, The Rock and Travis Scott at the Elimination Chamber.
SmackDown also featured a somewhat surprising title change in the main event. Other highlights from the show include appearances by world heavyweight champion Gunther, 14-time world champ Randy Orton and women's Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Olimpic Arena in Barcelona, Spain.
Rhodes crashes Miz TV, new tag champs crowned
Rhodes' appearance on Miz TV was a major selling point for Friday's show. The segment did not last long. Miz introduced Rhodes by noting that Miz, unlike Rhodes, has a win over Cena at WrestleMania. Rhodes' music played and his walkout was longer than his time in the ring. Rhodes walked up to The Miz, punched him in the jaw and dropped him with Cross Rhodes. The undisputed WWE champion picked up the microphone, said he only wants to speak to Cena and will see him on Monday Night Raw.
WWE Tag Team Championships -- The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) def. #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) via pinfall to win the titles. SmackDown's headliners had the crowd on their feet for this fantastic main event. All four superstars delivered athletically, landing high impact moves at a fast pace. Dawkins was particularly impressive keeping up with his three smaller dance partners. The finish came after miscommunication from the defending champs. Gargano inadvertently struck Ciampa with a superkick as they attempted their Meet in the Middle finishing move. The Street Profits jumped at the opportunity to put away Gargano while Ciampa was stunned.
WWE made the right call keeping Rhodes' appearance on Miz TV short. It's challenging to build a hot feud when most of the participants are missing. Rhodes said everything he needed to last week. This week was about action. Rhodes is focused and vengeful. We'll hopefully see Rhodes and Cena in the same ring on Monday for the first time since the Elimination Chamber. SmackDown's main event was great. #DIY and the Street Profits put on a fantastic match with an exciting title change. Crowning the Motor City Machine Guns, #DIY and Street Profits as champions has put SmackDown's tag division leagues ahead of Raw's. Grade: A-
