Defensive coordinator Todd Orlando to serve as Houston's interim coach
Orlando has been the Cougars' DC since 2015
Now that Tom Herman is on his way to Austin, Houston needs a new coach. For the time being, it looks as though defensive coordinator Todd Orlando will be running the show, the school announced.
Houston Chronicle first reported the news.
Orlando has been Houston's defensive coordinator for the last two seasons under Herman, and while Tom got a lot of the credit and attention, Orlando's defenses have played a large role in Houston's success too.
Orlando also has a chance to replace Herman permanently, and how he handles things the next few weeks as Houston prepares for a bowl game could be considered as sort of an audition.
Other names in the running for the Houston gig, according to Duarte, are Cal's Sonny Dykes, Syracuse's Dino Babers and Tulsa's Phillip Montgomery. Two other names that might surprise you? Washington State's Mike Leach and West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen.
