Alabama has been known for many things under coach Nick Saban, one of which is adding big-name coaches to its staff in “analyst” roles. Just last year, former Southern California coach Steve Sarkisian joined the program as an analyst before being promoted (briefly) to offensive coordinator. Same thing with former New Mexico coach Mike Locksley, who linked up with Saban as an analyst before being moved to co-offensive coordinator this offseason.

Saban is continuing that trend. The Tuscaloosa News reports that former Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke has joined the Crimson Tide’s staff as an offensive analyst. Weinke was most recently the quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL.

Neither Alabama nor Weinke has publicly confirmed the hire.

Weinke won the Heisman in 2000, throwing for more than 4,100 yards for the Seminoles.

Alabama previously hired Clint Trickett, a former quarterback at Florida State and West Virginia, to an unidentified support role for the offense. However, Trickett quickly departed to take the tight ends coach job at Florida Atlantic under former Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, proving once again the coaching fraternity is the smallest of worlds.
