| Pitching from stretch key for Miller: Red Sox reliever Andrew Miller has been outstanding since coming off the DL in early May. He has tossed six scoreless innings to begin his 2012 campaign, allowing three hits and one walk. He's also struck out seven. Miller's success has hinged on him pitching exclusively out of the stretch. “He’s much more efficient with his body and leg movements,” manager Bobby Valentine told the Boston Herald. “People who worked with him during his rehab, he was pitching out of the bullpen, so he got rid of the windup and he shortened his leg stroke so that his arm is in a consistent launching position every time. And that’s just quality, 94 (mph) with sink and 88 slider, starts behind the left-handed hitter. It’s pretty good stuff. But it’s more efficient because his body is not in the way, I think.” (Updated 05/17/2012) |

| Miller was a candidate for the rotation this spring before getting hurt. Now that he is thriving as a reliever, you would think the Red Sox would keep him in the bullpen. Miller does have two holds this season, but he's been used in a variety of situations, so that trend will likely continue. Miller still has low-end Fantasy appeal since he doesn't see regular save chances. (Updated 05/17/2012). |
