Mets 2B Daniel Murphy tallies pair of doubles in loss
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

Slumping Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy finally found a bit of an offensive groove Sunday, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, but it wasn't enough to keep the Mets from losing the rubber game of the Subway Series, 6-4, to the Yankees.

Murphy hit his first RBI double in the first inning as the Mets opened up a 2-0 advantage. He registered another clutch hit in the third, this time driving in a run to close the Mets' deficit to 5-4.

Murphy is tied with Lucas Duda for the team high with 11 RBIs, and the two hits raised his average to .169. However, it wasn't all good for Murphy, as he committed one of the Mets' four errors in the loss.

Mets 2B Daniel Murphy still looking for a rhythm at the plate
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy is off to his worst start to a season in his career, hitting just .142 in 62 at-bats. Manager Terry Collins believes he knows the reason for the struggles, according to ESPN.com.

"Lack of spring training, more than anything," Collins said Sunday.

Murphy took just 17 at-bats in spring training with a right hamstring injury and has just two hits in his last 19 at-bats entering Sunday's game. Collins remains in Murphy's corner for the long haul.

"He's got a track record," Collins said. "I'm not worried. We've just got to get him going."

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy provided most of the offense Thursday, as he drove in four runs during a 6-3 win against the Braves, running New York's win streak to 11 games.

Murphy had a bases-clearing double off Braves ace Julio Teheran in the first inning. He added an RBI single off Luis Avilan in the seventh inning.

Thursday was the 10th time in Murphy's career he had at least four RBI in a game. He has had a career-high five RBI three times.

Thursday also marked the first time this season he had a multihit and multi-RBI game. He entered play batting just .140 through 15 games.

Mets' Curtis Granderson, Daniel Murphy out of the starting lineup
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
