Home run, mental mistake highlight night for Mets' Daniel Murphy's
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy hit a two-run home run in Tuesday's loss to St. Louis.

Murphy went 1 for 4, hit his third home run and recorded his 22nd RBI.

After the game, however, the focus of Murphy's night was a mental mistake in the sixth inning. With two runners on, Murphy charged a sacrifice bunt by the pitcher instead of covering first base. St. Louis went on to score six runs in the inning.

"I made the wrong play," Murphy said, per NJ.com

"There are times when players try to do extraordinary things when the ordinary is all that's needed," manager Terry Collins said.

With Dilson Herrera (finger) on DL, Mets recall INF Eric Campbell
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer

With second baseman Dilson Herrera (finger) officially placed on the 15-day disabled list, the Mets have recalled infielder Eric Campbell , reports Mets 101.com, and will start him at third base on Saturday against the Brewers, moving Daniel Murphy back to second.

Herrera suffered a broken right middle finger while taking ground balls in practice Friday.

Campbell has been back and forth between the Mets and the minors this season, as he was sent down from the big club to Triple-A May 5.

Overall for the Mets this season, Campbell is 10 for 50 (.200) with a homer and five RBI.

Mets give Daniel Murphy the day off Thursday vs. Cubs
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Mets infielder Daniel Murphy was given the day off Thursday and is out of the starting lineup against the Cubs. He had started all but two of the Mets' games so far this season, but with a lefty on the mound, manager Terry Collins opted to give Murphy a breather. Murphy is hitting just .154 against left-handed pitching in 2015.

In his place, Ruben Tejada will get the start at third base and bat eighth. This is the first appearance at the hot corner for Tejada, either in the big leagues or the minor leagues. He did get some reps at third during spring training, however.

Dilson Herrera will make his second consecutive start at second base on Thursday.

Mets considering keeping Daniel Murphy third in batting order
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Mets manager Terry Collins bumped Daniel Murphy up to third in the lineup on Sunday while giving Michael Cuddyer a day off. Murphy produced well, going 3 for 5 at the plate with three singles. Collins is considering keeping there, according to the New York Post.

"If that kick-starts him that is something we've certainly got to have," Collins said. "He's a big piece of our offense and if he starts swinging the bat it's going to give us a different look."

Murphy is hitting .230 in his career from the three spot in the order. He has struggled early in 2015 with a 2.17 average batting fifth.
