Davis was scratched from the lineup Wednesday with a left shoulder contusion, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
Davis appeared to have injured his shoulder running into the outfield wall during Tuesday's game against the Giants. He remained in that contest, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored, but was taken off the lineup card before Wednesday's game as Billy Burns will come into the game at center while Coco Crisp moves over to left. Davis could be back in the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Giants depending on the severity of his injury.
Davis was a late scratch to the lineup Wednesday, as he was originally slotted to play left field against Jake Peavy and the Giants. He has been playing well in the past two weeks, hitting .303/.350/.607 with five home runs and 17 RBI. The team hasn't yet reported the reason for Davis being scratched from Wednesday's game or who will be starting in his place, but Billy Burns or Jake Smolinski will likely take his spot in left field.
Davis homered, his 19th, in a 2-for-4 game with three runs scored and a walk in Tuesday's win over the Giants.
Davis is raking over his past 14 games, in which he has mashed five homers and owns a .303/.350/.607 batting line. He also now has three walks in this stretch, as many as he managed to draw in the entire month of April. He'll need to find plate discipline to keep this hot streak going, as pitchers are likely to start treating him with much more care as he keeps putting balls into the seats.
Davis was 2-for-4 on Friday night with three RBI and his 18th homer, a two-out go-ahead bomb in the eighth.
Although the batting average is a bit of a drain at .243, Davis has provided a ton of pop for the A's and fantasy owners with 18 homers and 49 RBI so far in 2016. Those numbers are good enough for top ten in the American League in both categories. Davis now has 38 homers since August First of last season, a number topped only by Edwin Encarnacion in all of baseball over that span.
Davis (calf) is in Tuesday's lineup against the Brewers.
Davis was forced out of Saturday's game after experiencing cramps in his calf and missed Sunday's game as a result, but he appears to have benefitted from the team's off day as he's back in the lineup Tuesday to take on his former team. He'll patrol left field and bat fifth against Jimmy Nelson.
