Yankees' Chase Headley on lower back soreness: 'I'll be fine'
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters he subbed Alex Rodriguez in for Gregorio Petit at third base late in Tuesday's 6-3 victory over Toronto because Chase Headley is dealing with soreness in his lower back, per Newsday. Petit was drilled in the hand in the eighth inning, which prompted the change by Girardi in the bottom of the ninth.

Headley is expected to be back in the lineup Wednesday.

"I'll be fine," Headley said.

Headley is hitting .247 with 10 RBI in 97 at-bats this season.

Yankees Brett Gardner: Alex Rodriguez is 'all business'
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner isn't surprised by Alex Rodriguez's approach this season.

"He’s been all business since he’s been back," Gardner said, per the Journal News. "Last year, obviously, was very, very tough for him, and tough for a lot of people, but I think ever since he’s come back he’s been all about working hard and trying to help the team win."

That's in keeping with what Gardner has seen from A-Rod in the time the two have been teammates.

"I’ve had a chance over the last eight or nine years to really see behind the scenes and what goes into his preparation for the game, and the way that he works in the offseason. He doesn’t need to go out of his way to try to win me over," Gardner said.

Next up for A-Rod on milestone list: 3,000 Hits
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer

With Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez catching Willie Mays Friday in the all-time home run chase, next up on his milestone list is 3,000 hits where, coming into Saturday's game, he's 44 shy of reaching, per MLB.com.

"I still think that he’ll be asked a lot about [3,000 hits]," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “There aren’t a lot of people in the big leagues that have had 3,000 hits, so he’ll be asked a lot about it. I’m sure he’ll think plenty about it, but we also have some time until we get there.”

Report: Yankees will not change their plans regarding A-Rod bonus
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

The Yankees are sticking to their guns and will not change their position regarding Alex Rodriguez's historic 660th home run. Rodriguez tied Hall-of-Famer Willie Mays for fourth all time in home runs in Friday night's win over the Red Sox.

There is a marketing agreement between Rodriguez and the Yankees which was negotiated in 2007 that offers A-Rod $6 million for hitting No. 660 and tying Mays. The Yankees have indicated that will not view the home run as a milestone, and therefore have no obligation to make good on the deal, according to the New York Daily News

Rodriguez could choose to fight the team through arbitration. Rodriguez was asked about how he plans to handle the situation.

"I've learned my lesson," he said, per the report. "I'm doing things a different way now. I know those things will work themselves out."

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed Saturday that the team is not obligated to pay Rodriguez the $6 million bonus, reports USA Today.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi says A-Rod 'feeds' off the boos
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer

Alex Rodriguez has had to play to heavy boos on the road through most of his career, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi said sometimes that can make a player better, reports NJ.com.

"It's happened so much over his career," Girardi said. "Sometimes players feed off it."

Rodriguez's pinch-hit home run Friday was the winning run for the Yankees and tied him with Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time home run list.
