  • Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Won't be traded

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/25/16) Penguins' general manager Jim Rutherford says Malkin (elbow) "will not be traded," reports the NHL Network.

Rutherford was blunt in an interview during Round 2 of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft when addressing rumors that were swirling. However, it's interesting to note that he didn't say the same thing about Marc-Andre Fleury.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: MRI clean, no surgery required

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/23/16) Malkin will not require surgery on his injured elbow and is not expected to miss any time in the 2016-17 season.

It was announced last week that Malkin was scheduled to undergo an MRI, but it now appears that those results have came back clean. This is excellent news for the defending Stanley Cup champions, as Malkin provided 58 points in 57 games for the Pens during the regular season, adding another 18 points (six goals) in the playoffs.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Awaiting MRI results

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/16/16) Malkin will undergo an MRI on his elbow to determine whether or not he will need offseason surgery, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The results of the MRI could determine Malkin's availability for the World Cup of Hockey in September, however all indications point to the center being ready to go for the start of the 2016-17 season. If the Pens hope to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions, they will need the center back to full health.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Scores again in Game 5 defeat against Sharks

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/9/16) Malkin took six shots and scored a goal, but went minus-2 as the Penguins failed to close out San Jose in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Thursday.

Geno's found twine in consecutive contests after the Sharks silenced him over the first three games of the series. San Jose took an early 2-0 lead, but Malkin's goal put the Penguins right back in the game, energizing the Consol Energy Center crowd and ensuring that the Sharks would have to battle until the bitter end to come away with a win. As always, when he's healthy, he's one of the most impactful players on the ice.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Snipes game-winning goal in Game 4

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/6/16) Malkin potted the game-winning goal and added an assist in Monday's 3-1 win over the Sharks in Game 4.

The tally, a power-play marker, was just the second in 15 games for the man they call "Geno", who curiously only played 14:23 in this one. That's a stark contrast to the 20:26 he received in game 3 and his normal 17:26 a night in 21 playoff games this spring, but it's unclear as to the reason why his ice time may have been limited. Nonetheless, the 2009 Conn Smythe winner now has 17 points this postseason and will look to hoist his second Stanley Cup on Thursday back in Pittsburgh.
