Top Devils News

  • Devils' Dawson Mercer: Adds apple in loss

Mercer registered an assist and had two shots on goal in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Islanders.

Mercer had the secondary helper on Brett Pesce's goal in the first period. The 24-year-old Mercer is up to 14 assists, 24 points, 75 shots on net and 29 blocks across 37 games this season. Despite playing at a sub-par level offensively in December, he is starting to heat up with an assist in back-to-back games. He has maintained his spot on New Jersey's top line alongside Nico Hischier and Timo Meier since the latter and Jack Hughes returned to the team's top six two games ago. Regardless of the line combinations, Mercer should continue to see top-six minutes on a wing if he continues to produce points.

  • Devils' Nico Hischier: Distributes helper on lone goal

Hischier tallied an assist, put three shots on net and blocked three shots in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Islanders.

Hischier recorded the primary assist on New Jersey's lone goal, which  Brett Pesce scored. Hischier is up to 19 assists, 29 points, 92 shots on goal, 29 hits and 38 blocks through 37 games this season. While he has cooled down offensively since his 12-point, six-game run near the end of November, the 26-year-old forward has added 31 shots on net, 11 blocks and nine hits in his last 11 games. The return of Jack Hughes has helped lighten Hischier's workload, as the latter has been able to skate nearly a minute and a half less than his average ice time in December. The change should allow Hischier to bring balance back to his game, making him a fantastic buy-low candidate in fantasy with 80-point potential and solid category coverage.

  • Devils' Brett Pesce: Tallies first goal this season

Pesce scored a goal, fired five shots on net and recorded four blocks in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Islanders.

Pesce opened the scoring just over 15 minutes into Tuesday's contest with his first goal of the season. The twine finder was his first point since returning from long-term injured reserve three games prior. Since his return, the 31-year-old blueliner has averaged three blocks per game and has skated over 20 minutes in each contest. With 36 blocks on the season through 13 games, he would likely be challenging Toronto's Jake McCabe for the league lead in blocks had he stayed healthy. Now that he's back in New Jersey's lineup, Pesce is an intriguing option in category-based fantasy leagues with 30-point upside offensively.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Surrenders late goal in loss

Markstrom stopped 23 of 25 shots on goal in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Islanders.

Markstrom had a solid performance before he allowed the game-winning goal with 75 seconds remaining in the contest. The 35-year-old now has a 9-8-1 record with a 3.33 GAA and an .883 save percentage across 19 appearances this season. While the 2025-26 campaign has been a down year overall for Markstrom, he has played better as of late with a 2-2-0 record, a 2.71 GAA and a .907 save percentage over his last five appearances. It would be an enormous task to bring his season stats back to an elite level, but if he can maintain his recent success, he should remain a decent option in standard fantasy leagues. His next opportunity to take the ice is Saturday against the Capitals.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Defending cage versus Isles

Markstrom will patrol the crease on the road against the Islanders on Tuesday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Markstrom is having a rough December in which he is sporting a 2-3-0 record and a 2.96 GAA in six outings, while Jake Allen has featured in six games as well. If the Devils continue to split the workload between the duo, the 35-year-old Markstrom won't offer more than mid-range fantasy value down the stretch.

  • Devils' Jack Hughes: Returns with goal

Hughes scored a goal on two shots in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Sabres.

Hughes missed 18 contests after undergoing finger surgery for an incident that occurred during a team dinner. The 24-year-old was initially projected to miss eight weeks, but he was out for just over five weeks from the time of the injury. Hughes should be immediately activated in fantasy, as he'll provide a massive boost to the Devils' offense. He has 11 goals, 21 points, 71 shots on net and a plus-3 rating over 18 appearances this season, though due to the time he's already missed, he'll fall short of 70 games played for the third year in a row.

  • Devils' Jake Allen: Can't slow down Sabres

Allen stopped 22 of 24 shots in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Sabres. The third goal was an empty-netter.

Allen wasn't able to collect a third straight win, but he still had a fairly good effort. He allowed second-period goals to Josh Norris and Zach Benson. Allen has given up four goals on 92 shots over his last three outings, though Jacob Markstrom's play has also improved recently, leading to the two alternating starts over the last week-plus. For the year, Allen is 10-8-0 with a 2.47 GAA and a .912 save percentage over 19 appearances. The 35-year-old netminder remains a decent fantasy play for his stable ratios. The Devils' next game is Tuesday versus the Islanders.

  • Devils' Nathan Legare: Assigned to AHL

Legare was loaned to AHL Utica on Sunday.

The Devils activated Jack Hughes (finger) and Arseny Gritsyuk (upper body) from injured reserve in corresponding moves. Legare was a healthy scratch in two straight games during his recent stint with the big club. He has three goals, five points and 37 PIM across 21 AHL appearances this season.

  • Devils' Arseny Gritsyuk: Returning to lineup

Gritsyuk (upper body) will return to the lineup Sunday against the Sabres, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Gritsyuk has missed the last four games with injury, but he will be in Sunday's lineup along with Jack Hughes (hand). The 24-year-old rookie has been a nice player for the Devils this season, notching seven goals and nine assists in 31 games. He'll likely slot in somewhere in the Devils top-nine forward group in his return to action.

  • Devils' Jack Hughes: Ready to rock

Hughes (finger) will be activated from injured reserve ahead of his return to the lineup against Buffalo on Sunday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Following an 18-game absence, Hughes should return to a top-six role and see time on the first power-play combination versus the Sabres on Sunday. He has accounted for 10 goals, 20 points and 69 shots on net across 17 appearances this season. With Timo Meier (personal) and Arseny Gritsyuk (upper body) also ready to play, Juho Lammikko and Angus Crookshank will come out of the lineup.

  • Devils' Jake Allen: Starting Sunday

Allen will start in net for Sunday's game against the Sabres, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Allen has been excellent in his past two starts, allowing one goal each in victories over the Golden Knights and Ducks. The 35-year-old's next chance will come Sunday against the red-hot Sabres, who have won five consecutive games. He'll be playing behind a Devils lineup that is getting a big boost with the returns of Jack Hughes (hand) and Arseny Gritsyuk (upper body).

  • Devils' Xavier Parent: Dropped to minors

Parent was assigned to AHL Utica on Saturday.

The Devils noted that the Parent and Calen Addison were returned to the minors ahead of Friday's roster freeze, and the team also activated Timo Meier (personal) from the non-roster list. Parent has two shots on goal and seven hits in five NHL outings this season without earning a point.

  • Devils' Calen Addison: Returned to AHL

Addison was demoted to AHL Utica on Saturday.

Addison was recalled one week ago, but he was a healthy scratch in all four games. The defenseman had two goals and nine points across 21 AHL appearances before his recall.

  • Devils' Timo Meier: Activated from non-roster list

Meier (personal) was added to the active roster Saturday.

The Devils assigned Xavier Parent and Calen Addison to AHL Utica in corresponding moves. After being designated as a non-roster player, Meier missed the last five games. However, he will likely return to the lineup against Buffalo on Sunday. Meier has generated 11 goals, 23 points, 93 shots on net and 61 hits through 30 appearances this season.

  • Devils' Nico Hischier: Dishes pair of helpers

Hischier logged two assists, including one on the power play, and five shots on goal in Friday's 2-1 win over the Mammoth.

Hischier entered this contest on a five-game point drought before setting up tallies by Stefan Noesen and Connor Brown. The 26-year-old Hischier won't lose ice time even when his offense is cold, as his defensive play is too valuable to the Devils. The center is up to 28 points, 86 shots on net, 34 blocked shots, 27 hits, 14 PIM and a minus-1 rating over 35 contests.

... See More ... See Less
  • Devils' Stefan Noesen: Tallies in Friday's win

Noesen scored a power-play goal on three shots and blocked two shots in Friday's 2-1 win over the Mammoth.

Noesen has earned three points and 11 shots on net over his last five contests. The Devils' numerous injuries have opened the door for the 32-year-old forward to see steady middle-six usage, and he's taking advantage of it. Noesen is still at a paltry three goals, six points, 40 shots, 29 hits, 29 PIM and a minus-8 rating through 29 appearances. His fantasy appeal is limited to deeper formats, though his drops in power-play production and physicality have likely kept him off the radar in most leagues.
