Team USA won't be getting a medal after all. The American men's 4x100-meter relay team originally took bronze in the competition on Friday, but an early handoff between Mike Rodgers and Justin Gatlin resulted in a disqualification from Olympic officials.

The United States filed a protest and appeal, but that appeal was denied by the International Association of Athletic Federations, according to Sports Illustrated.

However, NBC reported on the broadcast Saturday that no decision has officially been made.

Rodgers couldn't believe the decision after the race as he and his teammates did a victory lap around the track before realizing they were DQ'ed.

"I see him throwing his hand back but I see when he has possession of the stick he's inside the zone," Rodgers said of Gatlin. "He has his hand back there, but he doesn't have the stick. He has the stick now. It hasn't left my hand yet."

However, the rule states that the handoff begins when the receiving athlete touches the baton.

Gatlin was in shock of the decision. It was three straight years without a medal for the men's 4x100-meter relay team.

"It was the twilight zone. It was a nightmare," said Gatlin per ESPN.com. "You work so hard with your teammates, guys you compete against almost all year long. All that hard work just crumbles."

The disqualification allowed Canada to earn the bronze. Jamaica won the event for a third consecutive Olympics.
