Talk about bittersweet.

American Kendra Harrison set the world record in the 100m hurdles on Friday at the Muller Anniversary Games in London, but she will not be competing in the Olympics in two weeks.

Harrison finished in a time of 12.20 seconds, beating Bulgarian Yordanka Donkova's previous record by a hundredth of a second.

Despite already holding the American record in the 100m hurdles, Harrison finished sixth in the event at the U.S. Olympic trials earlier this month, missing out on a trip to Rio.

Afterwards she was devastated, but turned her focus to a new goal -- setting a world record.

"Now that my mindset has changed since I did not make the Olympic team, every time I get on the line I know I still have a chance to break the world record, I still have a chance to continue to make my season even better than what it already has been," she said before Friday's competition.

As Deadspin points out, Harrison wasn't even aware that she broke the record until about a minute after the race was over due to an apparent clock error.

Brianna Rollins, Kristi Castlin and Nia Ali finished as the top three at trials, and will represent the U.S. at the Rio Olympics beginning on Aug. 5.
