Before losing to Floyd Mayweather in a 10th-round TKO on Saturday night, Conor McGregor stood toe-to-toe with one of the best tactical boxers of all time. According to the match statistics, McGregor gave Mayweather just as good of a fight -- if not better -- than some much more experienced boxers.

McGregor peppered Mayweather early, particularly with jabs, and displayed solid counterpunching even when Mayweather began to get more aggressive in the middle rounds before running out of gas late in the fight. According to CompuBox stats, McGregor landed 111 total punches, nearly as many as Canelo Alvarez did when he fought Mayweather, and more than Manny Pacquiao landed in his loss in 2015.

Here are the complete final punching stats for the match.

The boxer that lands more punches isn't necessarily the better one, but the fact that McGregor -- in his first ever pro boxing match -- hit Mayweather more times than Pacquiao did, is quite impressive.

Mayweather even admitted after the fight that he was surprised by McGregor's ability in the ring.

"He's a tough competitor. I think we gave the fans want they wanted to see," Mayweather said. "He was a lot better than I thought he was."

There's no telling whether McGregor will continue his boxing career, but there's one thing that we did learn on Saturday night -- he knows how to land a punch.
