Current Records: Providence 10-1; Connecticut 9-2
What to Know
After a five-game homestand, the Providence Friars will be on the road. The Friars and the #20 Connecticut Huskies will face off in a Big East battle at 5 p.m. ET Saturday at XL Center. The teams split their matchups last year, with Providence winning the first 70-59 at home and UConn taking the second 73-61.
While not quite a landslide, the contest between Providence and the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils on Saturday was still a pretty decisive one as Providence wrapped it up with a 68-53 win at home. Providence's success was spearheaded by the efforts of guard A.J. Reeves, who had 17 points and seven assists in addition to nine rebounds, and forward Justin Minaya, who had 14 points.
Meanwhile, the Huskies beat the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 74-64 on Saturday. Guard Andre Jackson and forward Akok Akok were among the main playmakers for UConn as the former had nine points and five assists along with 11 boards and the latter had 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks.
The Friars are expected to lose this next one by 7.5. Those burned by picking them against the spread on Saturday might want to keep in mind that the squad has not yet dropped back-to-back games against the spread this season.
Their wins bumped Providence to 10-1 and UConn to 9-2. We'll see which team can carry over their success and which team inevitably falls when Providence and UConn clash.
