WATCH: Kansas' victory prompts KU students to hit the street for wild celebrations after national title win
Celebratory mayhem came to the streets of Lawrence after the Jayhawks' title win on Monday

Kansas is known for having one of college basketball's most passionate fan bases, and that passion was on display late Monday night and into early Tuesday morning after the Jayhawks beat North Carolina 72-69 in the national championship game. Though thousands of KU faithful made the trek to New Orleans to watch the game in person, there were plenty left behind to celebrate on and near KU's campus in Lawrence, Kansas.
After the final buzzer sounded on the program's fourth national title, scenes emerged of what appeared to be utter mayhem on the downtown streets close to the Kansas campus. In one scene captured by Megan Abundis of KSHB, a crowd surfer sitting in a shopping cart was passed through a crowd of cheering fans.
The epicenter of the commotion appeared to be Massachusetts Street, a busy downtown thoroughfare lined with restaurants and shops. Even after midnight struck in the Central time zone, scenes continued to emerge showing throngs of people packed together with fireworks going off.
Have you seen a crowd surfer…in a shopping cart? While fireworks are going off? #RockChalk + 100,000 people? pic.twitter.com/VBHdq57Xnw

There was even commotion inside of Allen Fieldhouse, where thousands packed in to watch the game on the arena's video board. But that celebration appeared tame compared to what was going on in the streets as the Jayhawks' faithful celebrated their first title since 2008.
