There must be something about the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans and LSU that prevents teams from running an effective offense. Or anything resembling an offense period.

LSU's 27-0 shutout over BYU was the type of slow, grinding game that sucks the life out of an opponent, and the Cougars were damn-near suffocated. There isn't much to say about the game other than BYU had absolutely nothing going for it on that side of the ball. BYU had just 97 yards on offense for the night with -5 yards rushing. It was the lowest rushing total recorded against LSU's defense in more than 30 years.

Also, astonishingly, BYU never crossed midfield once. The closest the Cougars came to the 50 was at the BYU 47-yard line. That happened twice; once in the second quarter when a 3rd-and-4 conversion would have given BYU a spot in LSU territory, and once in the third quarter.

This, of course, is important because LSU played in the BCS Championship Game in 2012 against Alabama in the Superdome and infamously failed to cross midfield until about halfway through the fourth quarter as part of a 21-0 loss.

All of this is to say: don't be the team that plays BYU next in New Orleans. Otherwise, the torch will be passed on to you.
