Steve Spurrier Jr. returns to Oklahoma staff in off-field role
Steve Spurrier Jr. has returned to Oklahoma, where he was a member of the 2000 Sooners coaching staff that won a national title.
Steve Spurrier Jr. is headed back to Oklahoma. The school announced Thursday that Spurrier, the team's former wide receivers coach, will be joining the Oklahoma staff as an off-field offensive specialist and the director of high school recruiting.
"It’s great to have Steve back with us," said Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, who served as defensive coordinator under Spurrier's father at Florida from 1996-98.
"He was a big part of our original staff here, was with us for three years and helped us win a national championship. He’s a very positive guy and I have great respect for the way he works and the way he relates with recruits. He’ll play a strong role in on-campus recruiting and will also serve in an offensive specialist role."
Spurrier Jr. was previously at Oklahoma from 1999 to 2001. He spent the last 11 seasons coaching wide receivers at South Carolina under his father, Steve Spurrier.
He also spent five seasons on his father's staff at Florida.
