Week 8 SEC Scholar Athletes: Alabama's Shaun Dion Hamilton, A&M's Riley Garner
Every week, the SEC on CBS honors a student-athlete from each team in the game
Alabama won big for the second week in a row on the SEC on CBS, knocking off Texas A&M 33-14 in a top-10 showdown for SEC West supremacy. The win puts Alabama in the driver's seat in the division, and did nothing to change the minds of anybody who believes the Tide are the best team in the country.
During the game, the SEC on CBS honored a player from each team as the Scholar Athlete of the Week. This week, the honors went to Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton, and Texas A&M linebacker Riley Garner.
Hamilton, a management major, is scheduled to graduate from Alabama in May. He plans to begin graduate school shortly after that. He was the valedictorian of his high school class, and was also named to the SEC Freshmen Honor Roll during his first year in Tuscaloosa. Outside of the classroom, Hamilton has also volunteered on numerous occasion at local elementary schools, as well as the Boys and Girls Club of Tuscaloosa.
Garner, who plays special teams for the Aggies, is a sophomore in Texas A&M's Mays Business School. He's majoring in business administration with a 3.97 GPA. He also volunteers at local youth clubs in the College Station area.
