White, who is primarily a first baseman, will get opportunities at second and third base, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. "He's still primarily a first baseman and can DH a little bit, but the more time we can see him at second and third, that makes him at the very least a viable bench candidate," said Houston manager A.J. Hinch.

With third baseman Alex Bregman and second baseman Jose Altuve away from camp to participate in the World Baseball Classic, there's playing time available for White to earn a job on the major league roster -- just like he did in 2016. White reported to camp 30 pounds lighter, which in theory will help him transition to other infield positions, but the odds are still stacked against him.
