Loewen pitched one-third of an inning Friday, giving up a hit and a walk in Triple-A Reno's 8-6 loss to El Paso.
The fourth overall pick of the 2002 draft is coming off a rocky spring training that saw him give up seven hits, a walk, and four earned runs in 2.2 innings. Loewen pitched 19.1 innings last year and compiled a 6.98 ERA, which is not too far off from the 5.55 ERA he's produced in 183.1 innings between Baltimore and Philadelphia in his major league career. Given the left-hander's poor major league track record, he will likely be relegated to the minors in 2016, but if a need arises in the Arizona bullpen, he could see a promotion.
