Zeid pitched four scoreless innings in Team Israel's 8-3 loss to Japan in the World Baseball Classic on Wednesday, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out three.
Israel was one of the surprise teams of the World Baseball Classic, winning its first four games of the tournament before bowing out in the second round Wednesday. Zeid, who split time with Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas in the Mets organization last season, gave Israel some quality innings before the Japan bats woke up for a five-run sixth inning. Now that his obligations to Israel have concluded, look for the 29-year-old Zeid to try and land a minor-league contract from a team.
