Phelps was shifted to the 60-day disabled list Monday.
This is a tough break for Phelps and the Mariners, as the reliever has officially been shut down for the season due to a right elbow impingement. Phelps posted a 3.40 ERA and 62:26 K:BB in 55.2 innings between the Marlins and Mariners; now that he's out, Nick Vincent, Emilio Pagan and James Pazos will serve as the main setup men for Edwin Diaz down the stretch. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Seth Frankoff, who was claimed off waivers from the Cubs on Monday.
