Bird was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Bird's contract was selected by Miami on Wednesday, but he didn't make his major-league debut in his brief time with the Marlins. The 25-year-old will now be available on waivers after he slashed .267/.359/.441 with six homers, 36 runs, 20 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 62 games at Triple-A Jacksonville this year.
