Padres' Carlos Villanueva: Signs one-year deal with Padres

Villanueva signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Padres on Wednesday, Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports.

He has a career 3.47 ERA in 500 innings as a reliever, notching 494 strikeouts over that span, and should fit in somewhere in the middle of the Padres bullpen. There are some performance bonuses that Villanueva can reach, but the guaranteed money totals $1.5 million.
