Sultan of Stat examines statistical trends that give you a decisive edge on the competition. Check for new columns every Thursday.

The upcoming two weeks represent a critical time for many Fantasy owners. Those in Head-to-Head leagues are either well into their playoffs or in their championship games.

If you're having a tough time making those challenging lineup decisions, take a look at the track records of the following players against their upcoming opponents. Each player has his remaining opponents and his historical performance against each listed. Keep in mind these statistics shouldn't be the only deciding factor in your decision to use them, but they can help as useful tidbits if you simply can't choose between two otherwise equal players.

(All listed opponents are for games from Sept. 20-Oct. 3. Starting pitchers' listed opponents are based upon dates of remaining projected starts.)

Danys Baez, RP, Tampa Bay (KC-3, @NYY-1, TOR-3, BOS-3, DET-2, @DET-3): He might find save chances hard to come by on a mediocre Devil Rays team, but since being converted to closer last season, Baez has owned all of these teams but the Yankees. Throw out his record against New York and he has a combined 12 saves, 1.16 ERA and 0.871 WHIP in 30 games against the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Royals and Tigers in 2003-04.

Danny Bautista, OF, Arizona (@COL-3, @SD-3, MIL-3, SD-3): Any hitter scheduled for games at Coors Field is a recommended Fantasy starter, and Bautista is no exception, with a .286-7-26-3 stat line in 65 career games against the Rockies. He's also a lifetime .357-6-30-6 hitter in 57 games against the Padres and .331-9-28-3 hitter in 39 games against the Brewers.

Endy Chavez, OF, Montreal (NYM-3, PHI-3, FLA-3, @NYM-3): While he doesn't have much of a track record against the Phillies, Chavez has batted .292 with three stolen bases in seven games against them in 2004. He's also a lifetime .322-2-14-2 hitter in 32 games against the Mets and .300-0-10-5 hitter in 28 games against the Marlins.

Jose Contreras, SP, Chicago White Sox (9/23, KC; 9/28, @DET; 10/3, @KC): He might have struggled as a member of the Yankees, but Contreras does have a strong record against AL Central opponents. He won his only career start against the weak-hitting Royals, allowing two earned runs, a 1.000 WHIP and .227 opposing batting average in six innings, and is 3-1 with a 2.87 ERA and 1.277 WHIP in three career starts against the Tigers.

Craig Biggio, OF, Houston (@SF-3, @MIL-3, STL-3, COL-3): He's a lifetime .309-17-69-31 hitter in 169 games against the Giants, .290-11-37-9 hitter in 92 games against the Brewers, .309-19-111-29 hitter in 200 games against the Cardinals and .346-16-67-21 hitter in 104 games against the Rockies. If you're doubting those numbers based upon them being accrued during Biggio's All-Star years of the past, it's worth taking into account that his career average is still just .287, below his marks against any of his four remaining opponents.

Ryan Drese, SP, Texas (9/21, OAK; 9/26, SEA; 10/1, @SEA): Who would have thought Drese would be a reliable Fantasy starter this deep into a season? This breakout performer is 2-2 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.385 WHIP in seven career games (five starts) against the Athletics, and 2-0 with a 3.26 ERA and 1.293 WHIP in three starts against the Mariners in 2004.

Adam Dunn, OF, Cincinnati (@ATL-3, @PIT-3, @CHC-4, PIT-3): He's already hitting .310 with six homers, 12 RBI and two stolen bases in 12 games against the Pirates this year, and he'll draw them six more times. Dunn is also a lifetime .379-3-9-1 hitter in eight games at Turner Field and .337-7-18-2 hitter in 24 games at Wrigley Field.

Livan Hernandez, SP, Montreal (9/22, NYM; 9/27, FLA; 10/3, @NYM): He's 4-1 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.297 WHIP in seven starts against the Mets since 2000, and 8-3 with a 2.44 ERA and 1.131 WHIP in 14 career starts against the Marlins. But it's possible the Expos will use Hernandez strictly on four days' rest regardless of off days the remainder of the year, in which case he would face the Phillies instead of the Marlins. That's no matter -- Hernandez is 8-4 with a 2.80 ERA and 1.218 WHIP in 17 career starts against them.

Torii Hunter, OF, Minnesota (@CHW-3, @CLE-4, @NYY-3, CLE-3): He has hit an impressive .321 with three homers, 11 RBI and two stolen bases in 15 games against the White Sox, and Hunter sure owns the Indians. He's a .323-14-49-11 hitter against Cleveland in 78 games. However, you should probably consider reserving Hunter for those Sept. 28-30 games at Yankee Stadium -- he has hit just .115 with no homers in 17 games there.

Rodrigo Lopez, SP, Baltimore (9/21, @BOS; 9/26, DET; 10/1, BOS): He sure loves facing those Red Sox. Lopez is 8-2 with a 3.93 ERA and 1.383 WHIP in 14 career games (10 starts) against Boston, including a 5-1 record, 2.23 ERA and 1.116 WHIP in seven games (six starts) at Fenway Park. He has also held the Tigers to a .250 batting average and 1.286 WHIP in three career starts against them.

Mike Lowell, 3B, Florida (CHC-2, PHI-3, @ATL-3, @MON-3, @PHI-4): Although Lowell is historically a poor second-half hitter, he usually picks up the pace somewhat in September. Among his more interesting stat splits, if you throw out the 33 career games he played against the Phillies in their old Veterans Stadium, he's a lifetime .309-16-40-5 hitter in 47 games against Philadelphia. He's also a career .285-13-56-3 hitter in 81 games against the Braves and .309-11-51-1 hitter in 88 games against the Expos.

Julio Lugo, SS, Tampa Bay (KC-3, @NYY-1, TOR-3, BOS-3, DET-2, @DET-3): He's a better starter for the upcoming week than the regular season's final week, but overall Lugo's history indicates he'll finish strong. He's a lifetime .369-0-10-3 hitter in 19 games against the Royals, .315-6-17-5 hitter in 25 games against the Blue Jays and .280-1-9-3 hitter in 27 games against the Red Sox. Lugo has faced Detroit just three times in his career, hitting .231.

Jose Mesa, RP, Pittsburgh (CHC-3, CIN-3, @PHI-3, @CIN-3): He has six saves and a 3.29 ERA in 15 games against the Cubs; 10 saves, a 1.76 ERA and 0.848 WHIP in 17 games against the Reds and two saves, a 1.17 ERA and 0.913 WHIP in seven games against the Phillies. Mesa's team might not have much to play for, but his lifetime numbers suggest he wouldn't make a bad second Fantasy closer for the final weeks.

Troy Percival, RP, Anaheim (SEA-3, OAK-3, @TEX-4, OAK-3): For his career, he has 23 saves, a 1.75 ERA and 0.740 WHIP in 48 games against the Mariners; 28 saves, a 2.40 ERA and 1.136 WHIP in 52 games against the Athletics; and 23 saves, a 2.50 ERA and 1.028 WHIP in 37 games against the Rangers. There are only three teams from outside his division that Percival does better against -- the Devil Rays, Tigers and Yankees -- so expect a strong finish.

Aramis Ramirez, 3B, Chicago Cubs (@FLA-2, @PIT-3, @NYM-3, CIN-4, ATL-3): With the Cubs still in the wild-card hunt, expect Ramirez to play a key part in the team's final two weeks. For his career, he's a .313-0-3-0 hitter in nine games at Pro Player Stadium, .333-8-20-0 hitter in 21 games against the Pirates, .265-1-8-1 hitter in 13 games at Shea Stadium, .330-9-48-0 hitter in 60 games against the Reds and .325-5-10-0 hitter in 20 games against the Braves.

Aaron Rowand, OF, Chicago White Sox (MIN-3, KC-4, @DET-3, @KC-4): This red-hot slugger has a great track record in his division. He's a lifetime .293-4-14-0 hitter in 43 games against the Twins, .283-8-20-1 hitter in 55 games against the Royals and .370-4-19-4 hitter in 45 games against the Tigers. His homers and RBI against Kansas City are his best against any opponent, and his batting average against Detroit represents his second highest against any team he has faced at least 10 times.
