Contreras will get a day to reset Saturday after going 0-for-11 with four strikeouts over his last three contests. Danny Jansen will replace him behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Diamondbacks' James McCann: On bench Saturday

McCann is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres.

McCann will take a seat for Arizona's penultimate game of the 2025 season. Gabriel Moreno will catch while Adrian Del Castillo slots in at DH.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

    Nationals' Riley Adams: Sitting Saturday

Adams is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.

Adams will give way to Jorge Alfaro behind the plate for the second time in three games. Adams is slashing .188/.254/.312 in 283 plate appearances this season.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: On bench Saturday

Bailey is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bailey will take a seat for the second time in three games, giving way to Andrew Knizner behind the plate. Bailey is 20-for-69 (.290) with four home runs in September.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Getting breather Saturday

Ramirez is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets.

Ramirez will get the afternoon off Saturday after making 14 consecutive starts. He went 15-for-57 (.263) with a pair of home runs and four stolen bases during that stretch. Liam Hicks will draw the start behind the plate while Troy Johnston slots in at DH.

  • Pedro Pages C | STL

Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Absent from lineup

Pages isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Pages will sit out Saturday's contest after going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in Friday's series opener. His absence will give Jimmy Crooks another start behind the plate catching for Michael McGreevy.

  • Marlins' Agustin Ramirez: Swipes two bags in win

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases in Friday's 6-2 win over the Mets.

The rookie catcher has showed off his speed during the second half of the season -- he now has five multi-steal games since the start of August. Ramirez has still cooled down considerably at the dish after a torrid start to his major-league career, as he has a .639 OPS since the beginning of July, but he still looks like Miami's backstop for the future. Through 531 at-bats, Ramirez is batting .232 with 21 homers, 33 doubles, 67 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Back in Friday's lineup at DH

Alvarez (cramps) will start at designated hitter and bat seventh in Friday's game in Miami.

Alvarez didn't play in Thursday's game versus the Cubs due to cramps, but he's back in action after a day of rest. With Alvarez at DH, Luis Torrens will do the catching for the Mets.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: On bench Friday

Kelly is out of the lineup for Friday's game against St. Louis.

Kelly will yield to Reese McGuire behind the dish for Friday's series opener. It looks to be just a rest day for Kelly, who had caught four consecutive games leading up to the contest.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Battling cramps

Alvarez isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs due to cramps, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez felt cramping in his lower half toward the end of Wednesday's contest, so manager Carlos Mendoza decided to give him a day to recover Thursday. The skipper noted that Alvarez will be available off the bench, but it will be Luis Torrens behind the plate catching for starter Nolan McLean.
