  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Taking seat Thursday

Alvarez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

After starting and homering in both of the first two games of the series, Alvarez will get a breather for Thursday's finale. Luis Torrens is catching and batting sixth for the Mets.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Back in lineup

Realmuto (finger) will start at catcher and bat sixth Thursday against the Marlins, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Realmuto sat out Wednesday's contest after taking a foul ball off his right index finger Tuesday, and he's now ready to return to the starting nine after a day of rest. The 34-year-old backstop has been cold at the plate toward the end of the regular season, slashing .210/.288/.290 across 73 plate appearances since the beginning of the month.

  • Giants' Andrew Knizner: Triples in win

Knizner went 1-for-2 with two RBI, a triple and a walk in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Cardinals.

Knizner appeared in just his fifth game this month, during which he's batting .333 with two RBI in 13 plate appearances. The backup catcher hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and added an RBI triple in the eighth to give the Giants the lead. With that, the 30-year-old recorded the first three-bagger of his seven-year big-league career. He's slashing .227/.298/.307 with 11 runs scored, five RBI and a homer in 85 plate appearances this season.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | CIN

Dodgers' Ben Rortvedt: Out of lineup Thursday

Rortvedt is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Diamondbacks.

With Will Smith (hand) out and Dalton Rushing (shin) returning just last week, Rortvedt has served as the Dodgers' primary catcher this month. However, he'll get a breather in Thursday's finale while Rushing dons the catcher's gear.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Diamondbacks' James McCann: Not in Arizona lineup

McCann is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Dodgers.

McCann has served as the Diamondbacks' primary catcher lately while Gabriel Moreno occupies the designated-hitter slot. However, it will be Moreno at catcher and Adrian Del Castillo at DH for Thursday's matinee.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Back in action Thursday

Bart (wrist) will start at catcher and bat sixth in Thursday's game against the Reds.

Bart had to be scratched from the lineup Tuesday and didn't play Wednesday because of a wrist issue, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in Thursday's series finale. The 28-year-old Bart will enter action Thursday having homered in two straight contests.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Day off Thursday

Stephenson is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Pirates.

Stephenson went 4-for-5 with a game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Pirates, but he'll get some rest for Thursday's matinee. Jose Trevino will start at catcher and bat eighth for the Reds.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Clutch homer not enough Wednesday

Stephenson went 4-for-5 with a double and a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Pirates.

The veteran catcher kept the Reds alive by launching a slider from Bucs closer Dennis Santana over the fence in left-center field in the ninth inning, tying the game at 2-2, but Cincy couldn't close the deal. Stephenson has been a big part of the team's surge into playoff contention since coming off the IL in early September, and over his last 13 games he's slashing .275/.341/.650 with three doubles, four homers and 13 RBI. The Reds are tied with the Diamondbacks, one game back of the Mets for the final wild-card spot in the NL with four to play.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Getting breather Wednesday

Bailey isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bailey will get a chance to catch his breath Wednesday after going 4-for-8 with two RBI and three runs scored over the first two games of the series. Andrew Knizner will fill in for him behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Drew Romo C | BAL

Rockies' Drew Romo: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Romo to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Romo went 0-for-3 at the plate while serving as the Rockies' third catcher, and the return of Warming Bernabel (concussion) from the IL will now push the former back to the minor leagues. The 24-year-old backstop has slashed .264/.329/.409 across 244 plate appearances at Albuquerque and will most likely remain there for the rest of the year.
