Red Wings' Gemel Smith: Hits waivers

Smith was placed on waivers by Detroit on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Smith played Thursday against the Rangers, going pointless in 5:24 of ice time. The 27-year-old hasn't been an NHL regular since suiting up in 46 games for Dallas in 2017-18, so he's not likely to make much of a fantasy impact going forward.
