Justin Thomas was lights out on Friday. (PGA Tour)

Justin Thomas was 11 under par on Friday through 15 holes at the CIMB Classic. Read that again -- 11 under through 15 holes. He needed to play the final three holes (including a par 5) in just 2 under par to join the exclusive 59 club.

He went par-par-par for a 61.

Still, that's hardly a disappointment. Thomas leads the tournament by a shot over Brendan Steela and by two over Spencer Levin, Hideki Matsuyama and first-round leader Scott Piercy.

He cited Wedding Crashers as one of the reasons behind his monstrous day. He said his motto is "no excuses, play like a champion."

"It's from the movie Wedding Crashers," said Thomas. "I don't know. I just, it's a funny movie, but I think it's a pretty good motto, just because nobody is really going to feel sorry for you and nobody really cares. It's just the reality that it is. You got to get over it and keep playing and just keep playing and try to do what you have to do."

I like that.

Thomas will play in the final group on Saturday and is looking for his first PGA Tour win.
